First Infant Feeding Harrogate

As far back as I remember I have always wanted to work with babies and children, and even remember early thoughts about how much I wanted to be a mum. Fast forward a few years and I still felt the same, so I decided to train to be a children’s nurse, I qualified in 1995. The following 10 years saw me working on Children’s wards, SCBU and Neonatal Units in Leeds and Harrogate. In 2005, by which time I had 2 children aged 5 and 7, I decided to train to be a Health Visitor to work with families in the community.

Following this I took a post in Public Health with a focus on breastfeeding and implementing the Baby Friendly Initiative, supporting more women to choose to breastfeed and to breastfeed for as long as they want. Here I found my true passion and commitment and steadily built up a strong skills and knowledge base and I qualified as a Lactation Consultant. I used this personally with the birth of my youngest daughter in 2009, with all the information I felt I could make truly informed decisions, knowledge is power!

I have continued to work in Public Health successfully supporting teams to increase their knowledge and skills, as well as implementing programmes with the aim to increase the number of women supported to breastfeed. I am hugely passionate about ensuring all women and families have access to information to ensure they can make a fully informed decision and that they are then supported in their choice.

My vision is that through working with myLifePool, as well as independently, I will be able to offer accessible Friendly, Instinctive, Responsive, Sensitive and Timely infant feeding support which will complement the information and support provided by statutory services.
